This process is different because the banks may take 60-90 days (or longer) to make a decision. The process sometimes frustrates potential buyers. During short sale processes, banks usually have strict steps to follow in their decision making. The banks often have old information regarding the market value of the individual properties. Short sales are getting easier and they're closing quicker, but I wouldn't recommend trying to buy a home that's a short sale if you're in a hurry to move in.
